Review - Low-Fat Soup & Chowder Recipes by Sarah C. Steward

Book Review --
Low-Fat Soup & Chowder Recipes by Sarah C. Steward

Got this book as a free book, and I highly recommend it. Especially if you like soup and are wanting to eat healthier. This is not your usual run of the mill collection of soup recipes. The author has assembled a wonderful collection of recipes that are unique and different. It's a fine addition to any cookbook collection.

I think my two favorite recipes are the gumbo recipes, and the Italian mushroom soup recipe. But then, there is the Japanese Mushroom soup with noodles and the Southwest-style potato corn chowder.

Right now, at the time I am posting this, this book is free.  And as a free book, it is a tremendous value.  It would still be a good value at it's regular price of $1.47 too.  An absolutely wonderful collection of recipes,  with excellent step by step instructions, and a table of contents that lets you zip to specific recipes.

The Bond, A Paranormal Love Story

A woman, Laura Neill, in Vancouver is struck by a Chrysler Intrigue while crossing the street. At the same time in Toronto a car also strikes Julian Rule. Both people have an out of body experience and meet as they are floating. Their ethereal forms bond as one before separating - each taking a part of the other’s soul with them as they return to their bodies.

When the two people wake up, they remember the experience they shared and have memories of each other. The simultaneous accidents created a psychic bond. They are truly soul mates. Although Laura is haunted by visions of Julian that she cannot understand, she has decided to make dramatic changes in her life. One of them is becoming engaged to a member of England’s nobility that has recently appeared in her life. When he senses that she is in danger – a feeling that is confirmed by a psychic friend – Julian goes to Vancouver to come to her aid. With the help of a detective, Julian is able to prove that Laura’s fiancĂ© is a con artist and a murderer. When Julian confronts the man, he and Laura are placed in imminent danger.

In a bloody showdown during a Mystique concert, the government ended rock music. The members of Mystique disappeared - as many musicians before them had -without a trace.

This drives fans underground and they form the rebel group, the Let Us Play Organization. Presently Kaya More, who is the daughter of a slain LUPO founder, as well as a descendant of a member of Mystique, leads LUPO.

The gift of second sight aids Kaya as she leads the rebels from New York City to California to the Canadian Rockies. Once LUPO joins forces with other outlaws from around the world, the rebellion explodes and a showdown between the oppressors of music and fans is inevitable.

She doesn’t know who is being killed, or why, until the day Julie goes to a press conference held by the Vancouver Police Station: a press conference to announce the formation of a special task force that will investigate the case of the prostitutes who have gone missing from Vancouver’s East Side.

Detective Constable Santoro Ricci, an officer with the Vancouver Police Department, wants on the special task force. When he happens upon Julie at the press conference, Ricci finds himself unofficially investigating the case.

Julie also finds herself having visions where she is transported back in time into the body of a Chinese prostitute in the late 1800s. Through these visions, and stories told to her by long time residents of the city, Julie learns more of the history of Vancouver.

With the help of Francine, an east side prostitute, Julie and Santoro work together to solve the mystery of the missing women. When Francine and Julie are taken by the killer, Santoro must find the missing answers fast.

The Breeders by Katie French

"The Breeders is a YA dystopian read that's as gritty and dark as the cover and title suggest. It takes a look at how society might devolve if females were commodities: bought, sold, stolen, and traded to keep the dwindling human race going. Frightening concept. I loved it." --A.G. Henley, author of The Scourge

Dissidence by Jamie Canosa

"An amazingly snarky protagonist, two hot boys, a mass rebellion, and an ending that will blow your mind are the perfect ingredients that will make Dissidence the next big thing in YA." --Beth, YA Sisterhood

Elei's Chronicles - 2 book set now out!

I love boxed sets in ebooks.  They are great deals for the reader, especially when they are a series.  So here it is, the cover for the 2 book boxed set of volumes 1 and 2 of the Elei's Chronicles.

Where to buy it

Amazon UK

Rex Rising - Book 1
In a world where parasites create new human races, Elei leads a peaceful life as an aircar driver — until a mysterious attack on his boss sends him fleeing with a bullet in his side and the fleet at his heels. Pursued for a secret he does not possess, he has but one thought: to stay alive. Yet his pursuers aren’t inclined to sit down and talk, and that’s not the end of Elei’s troubles. The two powerful parasites inhabiting his body, at a balance until now, choose this moment to bring him down, leaving Elei with no choice but to trust in people he barely knows in a mad race against time. It won’t be long before he realizes he must find out this deadly secret — a secret that might change the fate of his world and everything he has ever known — or die trying.

Rex Cresting - Book 2
Still recovering at a hospital on the north coast of Dakru, Elei is convinced that his part in bringing down the Gultur is over. Rex has infected the other race and their dictatorial system is starting to collapse. Not every Gultur, though, has been affected, and on top of that, inside Elei’s body, Rex has matured and goes through another transformation. Elei isn’t sure he can survive Rex’s new strength — but that may prove the last of his worries as the Gultur descend on him again.

Review - Women of Eaton: Trilogy by Madeline Sloane

Women of Eaton: Trilogy by Madeline Sloane

Containing the novels:  Distracted, East of Eaton, and West Wind

I received this book through Read 2 Review's 2013 Read-A-Thon event.  If you didn't participate, you missed out on a chance to review some great books.  This book was one of 5 that I received to review.

I have read 3, that I am reviewing now.  And the 3 books all had one thing in common.  They were part of a series.  And so, let's start there.  How each book, as part of a series compares.

In this book, you have all 3 volumes of the series in one.  So basically you are getting what is called a boxed set.  I love boxed sets.  You can get all the books in a series in one swipe, and usually at a better deal than if you spent the money to buy them separately.  Such is the case here.  This set is a great value.

I love this set.  Madeline Sloane is an exceptional writer.  Let's talk about the 3 books, shall we.

Book 1, Distracted - This book is about an editor - female, who goes to work with an artist - male, on his book.  Now he is the somewhat lazy type, and the story of her trying to get him to buckle down and work on the book is very amusing.  While at the same time, he is trying to get her to loosen up and engage in some friendly romance.  The whole thing makes for a very enjoyable book.  This book is a 10, all on it's own.

Book 2, East of Eaton - This book is about the mother of a teenage daughter, living with her father, who is opening up her own bookstore.  The whole thing is delightful.  There's a professor at the local college who has more than books in mind with this bookstore owner.  There's the daughter and her boyfriend, who is related to the professor.  Even the father gets in on the romance deal.  In the end, everyone ends up with someone.  Also a 10.

Book 3, West Wind - This book is about a character that you meet briefly in book 2.  So going in, if you have read 2, you already are ahead of the game a bit.  This one is about a young woman who has to go care for her grandmother when she has a fall.  And she ends up trying to unravel a knot in her grandmother's past, which brings her smack-diddle-dab up against a handsome man.  The book is about these two overcoming their families stormy past to find happiness together.  It makes for a rousing good read.  Also a 10.

About the whole series - The thing I like about the whole series is that you don't have to read all 3 books to be able to enjoy just one of them.  They are all stand alone novels.  It's fun to read all 3, especially if you get them in a boxed set like this, but you don't have to read the others to be able to enjoy just one of them.

Recommended for ages 17 and up.
